The interesting life of a professional minor league hockey player

North American Training Camp Day

For those wondering what a typical training camp day looks like in North America it usually looks something like this:

First, It’s the NHL camp and it lasts 1 week long (1st cuts), 2 weeks (2nd cuts) and then maybe 1-2 players after that.

Also you get $107.00USD (per diem) every day that you attend camp.

NHL camp

1st day: Fitness testing/Media day

2nd day: Practice/Ice skate Test

3rd day: Practice/System review

4th day: Generally an exhibition game (usually 2-3 per camp)

5th day: Practice/team building exercises

6th day: Exhibition Game

7th day: Cuts. If cut you are sent to the AHL camp. If not you are onto the second week of camp where practices will get easier as the team will focus on more system type practices.

I have never made it past the 7th day as I was always cut and sent to the AHL camp… the start of my minor league struggles would begin here.
