ECHL training camp is not as professional as the NHL and AHL camps. There usually is not enough players to complete the camp so management usually grabs players from around the area who are ex players that currently have other jobs. We had 4 players at the camp in Utah who had full time jobs but they took part in the camp to fill out the rosters. In fact sometimes the “fill in” players would be the most dangerous to play against because they would make dirty hits because they couldn’t read the play well or they were trying to prove themselves to management even though they were never in contention to actually make the team.
ECHL camp went by very fast, usually with one or two practices and then by the third day an exhibition game and then by the 5th-6th day the regular season would start. Some teams wouldn’t even have any exhibition games but rather just jump right into the season without any preparation games at all.
